2008 Favia La Magdalena Napa Valley Red Wine

The 2008 La Magdalena is only the fifth commercial offering of this wine, though 2008 marks ten years since we first made this Cabernet Franc from David Abreu's Madrona Ranch at the foot of Spring Mountain. In 1998, we received the first Cabernet Franc fruit produced from a new planting that David had established from various selections of what could be our favorite Bordeaux varietal. We have made this wine every year since. Both components shined in this vintage, but producing a blend with more Cabernet Franc than usual made sense to us—highlighting its amazing depth, complexity, and richness. Violet, beeswax, dark chocolate and licorice flavors, and mouth-coating tannins enliven the senses. The wine is finely detailed and deeply structured, and should evolve beautifully over the next few decades.
