2009
Favia Suize Viognier, Amador
Just as Ann surprised us with this amazing vineyard site, we surprised ourselves with this very compelling wine. Our viognier block was initially conceived to add a layer of complexity to our syrah, but every once in a while it warrants its own attention. Our 2009 Suize viognier captures many of the characteristics we love about California white wine. Its deep, ripe fruit aromas and flavors are backed up with a vibrant acidity and an impressive density. Dried mango, heady magnolia petals, ocean breeze and orange blossom reach out from the glass. As you taste the wine, a seemingly infinite number of layers of flavor unfold: citrus peel, lemon meringue, lychee and wet stones come to mind. The wine is named Suize, after Marie Suize, a female prospector who looked for gold around Sutter Creek during the California gold rush. Her tireless spirit and dogged determination remind us of our great friend Ann Kraemer, from whose vineyard these grapes come. This unique wine is only offered when it possesses the best expression of the vintage. Enjoy the 2009 now, and stay tuned for future, sporadic releases!
